Dr. Ira Kirschenbaum is the Chair of Orthopaedic Surgery of the BronxCare Health System.   BronxCare Health System is one of the largest, non-profit, non-governmental safety net health systems.  It services the 15th Congressional District in NY, which is the poorest congressional district in the nation.  In this role, he developed, from the ground up, what is considered the largest and highest quality full-time orthopaedic department for a safety net hospital.

 

Dr. Kirschenbaum has had and continues to have a notable and unique career as an orthopaedic surgeon with in-depth and wide-breadth entrepreneurial, corporate, and healthcare leadership experience in operations, process reengineering, information technology, and innovation design.

 

In the addition Dr. Kirschenbaum has had the following accomplishments:

• Founder and Editor in Chief of The Journal of Orthopaedic Experience & Innovation

• Senior Advisor and Board Member of Gate Science

• The founder of Prodigy Medicine, a venture supported by IBM and Sears

• The founding Executive Director of Medscape Orthopaedics and part of the team that helped take the company (Medscape) public in 1999

• Developer of many multimedia and database programs that have had wide application in orthopaedic surgery

• Founder and former Chief Technology Officer of SwiftPath. 

• Writer of many articles and book chapters on electronic medical records
